2022 Best 22 – North Melbourne Kangaroos

The wooden spooners from last year are going to need a lot of luck to not have another spoon in their kitchen drawer at the end of this year. Yes they have got some exciting kids. But that’s about where it stops.

Across the board there are plenty of magnets you could throw on the board and just see where they stick with the Roos. I reckon there are about 10 guys guaranteed a game week in, week out and after that. Take a pick for who fills the remaining 12.

Luke McDonald has been told he’s going to the backline again in 2021. What role he plays will be the big question though. Aaron Hall and Jack Ziebell got plenty of unaccountable pill last year but will David Noble let that continue in 2022? I’m not sure about that. Ben McKay is a star in a very average side and hopefully this year we will see Lachie Young and Aidan Corr on the park a bit more as they can add a bit to the Roos side.

Tom Powell is going to be a jet and may have to play on the outside a bit longer thanks to the arrival of Hugh Greenwood. With Ben Cunnington‘s health issues, I’ve left him out of the starting 22 but is a moral if he’s fit and healthy.

Luke Davies-Uniacke, Tarryn Thomas and Jye Simpkin are going to be important cogs in the Roos midfield for many years. I see all three spending some time forward as well at stages this year. I have Jed Anderson in the starting side as he looks like he may be available now come Round 1 but Will Phillips or Jason-Horne Francis could step into his midfield spot if needed.

The Roos do have two very exciting young forwards in Cam Zurhaar and Nick Larkey. They are going to cause oppositions sides headaches for many years. The addition of Callum Coleman-Jones is a great addition to the forward line and provides someone to help Todd Goldstein in the middle.
