Round 6: Captains and Streamers

Each week we use our AFL Fantasy Projections (available to members of The Keeper League) to find some of the best captain options for your sides.

There are always some very obvious captain options, but we’ll try to dig a little deeper to find less popular options due to the widespread nature of players in keeper leagues. If you have the Uber premiums, then please don’t take this article as advice not to put the Captaincy on them.

For the streamer options, I’ll look at some players who perform well historically against their opponents that may not be automatic selections in your side.

Captains

Jarrod Lyons is averaging 103 from his last three games and this week comes up against the Gold Coast Suns, whom he coincidently averages 103 points against. Lyons scored a captain-worthy 136 on the Suns in their last encounter.

Callum Mills is gradually building into season 2022 and faces a Hawthorn team who have given up a mountain of points to midfielders. Mills only averages 80 against the Hawks but had 113 on them last season.

Tom Stewart could really feast on North Melbourne’s errant inside 50 kicking. Stewart averages 89 against North and scored 111 in the corresponding fixture last year.

Taylor Adams averages 101 points against Essendon, 98 points at the MCG and scored 125 points on them in Round 23 last year.

Brayden Fiorini is one of the rare Gold Coast Suns mids who has enjoyed big scores against the Lions. He averages 118 on the Lions and scored 142 in his last Q-Clash.

Vice-Captain

Brad Crouch is in career best fantasy form with a 107 average and going at 115 in his last three. Crouch averages 106 on Greater Western Sydney and is an outstanding VC loop option.

Marcus Bontempelli although he spent a majority of the last round up forward, I’d back him in this week against the Crows. He averages 105 against the Crows and in fantasy terms ‘he’s due’ a ceiling score.

Matt Crouch averages 150 at Mars stadium, you can’t ignore that temptation. He scored 96 on the Western Bulldogs back in 2020 and averages 94 against them.

Tom Green has scored over 100 in four of his five fixtures this season, quietly going about his business with an average of 106 this season. He is the second-highest averaging Giant and owners can feel safe putting the VC on him.

Streamers

Robbie Gray is coming off a respectable 75 on the weekend and this week plays the West Coast Eagles. Gray averages 77 against the Eagles and scored 94 on them in Round 3 2021.

Dane Rampe scored 109 on Hawthorn in Round 13 last season and has a history of scoring on weaker forward lines. The sweetener this week is that the Hawks will be without their number one forward target Mitch Lewis.

Gryan Miers has looked good in his first two games back and this week he faces North Melbourne. Miers averages 88 on North and scored 91 in their previous encounter.

Jai Newcombe has had a rapid rise this season and is coming off 113 against Geelong on Easter Monday. Newcombe scored 87 against the Swans in his one and only match against them.

Jack Higgins is averaging a respectable (injury affected) 70 this season which includes two 90+ scores. The Friday night game makes him an ideal loop candidate.
