CBAs Analysis: Round 15, 2022 – AFL Fantasy

See who the winners and losers were in the CBAs over the weekend.

CBAs – Centre Bounce Attendances – is a statistic that measures the number of times a player is present at a centre bounce at the beginning of a quarter or following a goal. A player that has a high attendance rate at CBAs is around the footy more and (in some cases) in a more fantasy-friendly midfield role.

Analyse the CBAs from the weekend of football in our user-friendly tables in our premium resources section – featuring advanced analytical tools to better measure the biggest changes, both seasonally and week-to-week.

Below, see who some of the winners and losers were from a CBA perspective over the weekend.

Luke Jackson

We got a glimpse of the future on Friday night when Luke Jackson played as the number one ruck for Melbourne.

He went to 67% of the centre bounces for the Dees which was 28.8% on his average for the season and 25% up on last week. Jackson absolutely dominated the game in the ruck scoring 125 AFL Fantasy points.

However, this scoring bump is going to be short-lived as Max Gawn will return over the next weeks. So I wouldn’t be surprised if his scoring drops back down when that happens.

This might be an issue for coaches in the AFL Fantasy Classic format, but for keeper league owners, it gave us a glimpse of the future and it was good to see how he can perform in this role.

Jackson is out of contract for next season and there’s talk he is now worth big dollars. If he leaves Melbourne at the end of the year and becomes the number one ruck at another club, his value will skyrocket and he could be a premium fantasy ruckman.

Invest now.

Zac Fisher

I enjoy watching this guy play and it was great to see him get more midfield time on the weekend.

Fisher went to 48% of the centre bounces for Carlton on Saturday which was 37% higher than his season average and 30% hight than last week.

We are not 100% sure what caused the CBA bump but we noticed that Sam Walsh’s CBA numbers dipped, moving more to the outside. Matthew Kennedy’s numbers also decreased with the inside bull spending more time forward. Adam Cerra was also missing for his second consecutive week.

This paved the way for Zac Fisher to spend more time in the midfield which resulted in him scoring a huge 108 AFL Fantasy points.

We’ve seen Fisher score big in pre-season games when he’s given bulk midfield time, so if he’s given the same opportunity in the regular season he may put up some good scores.

As a forward, he’s definitely one to loophole when you can.

Jack Ross

Jack Ross has typically been played on a wing this season, but when Dion Prestia went down on Saturday, Ross received a decent bump in his CBA numbers.

He went to a season-high 17 CBAs on the weekend, which is a 40.4% bump on his season average and a 51% increase on the last game he played in round 11.

As a result, he ended up with 25 touches and 6 clearances and was a key part of Richmond’s comeback in the 3rd quarter, showing that he can perform in this role.

Again, we’ll note that Dion Prestia went down early in this game. Trent Cotchin was also missing, so I’m not sure what role he’ll have once they both return.

But Jack Ross is a player who has shown fantasy potential early in his career, and he’s one we’ll be watching with interest.

Deven Robertson

After Lyons copped a hit to the sternum and was subsequentially subbed out, there was always going to be a bump for a Brisbane midfielder.

The player to receive that bump was Deven Robertson.

Robertson went to a season-high 48% of the centre bounces, after only going to a combined average of 23% from his previous three games.

Whilst he only scored 41 points, Robertson is a player with immense fantasy potential given his junior fantasy scoring. He hasn’t locked down a role that suits him in Brisbane’s side but we’re getting signs that he might be part of the future midfield options. His boost in CBA numbers on the weekend gave us a hint of that.

Whilst we may wish that Deven Robertson had shown us more by now, I’m still keeping the faith that he’ll become a good fantasy player in the future.
