CBAs Analysis: Round 8, 2025- AFL Fantasy

See who the winners and losers were in the CBAs over the weekend.

In AFL Fantasy, Centre Bounce Attendances (CBAs) are one of the most valuable indicators of a player’s role and scoring potential. Each week, changes in CBAs can signal role shifts, coaching adjustments, or evolving team strategies—all of which are crucial for fantasy coaches looking to stay ahead of the game. Each week, I’ll be selecting five key players whose midfield involvement is worth highlighting. For a more detailed breakdown of all the biggest movers, members can access our CBA analysis data tools here.

Mark Blicavs

Mark Blicavs saw a 13% uptick in centre bounce attendances over the weekend. This was due to Rhys Stanley getting injured early in the game, with Blicavs taking on the backup ruck role behind Sam De Koning. It’ll be interesting to see how Geelong handles this over the next few weeks. If Stanley is sidelined, expect De Koning to assume the number one ruck role, but Blicavs could see a small bump in scoring if he continues spending time in the ruck—especially handy given his DEF status.

Josh Ward

Josh Ward was the Hawthorn player with the biggest increase in centre bounce attendances this week. Cam Mackenzie was out and is likely to return next week, but if he misses again, Ward could get another week of increased midfield opportunity—particularly with Conor Nash still suspended and Will Day out long term.

Trent Rivers

With Clayton Oliver missing, Trent Rivers picked up the slack in Melbourne’s midfield, seeing a 29% increase in centre bounce attendances. However, he only scored 88 points—down on his three-week average while playing across half-back. Rivers may be one of those players who actually scores better off half-back than in the midfield, particularly at Melbourne, where the defenders points spread is better for fantasy.

Liam Ryan

Liam Ryan was the latest West Coast player to get a run through the midfield, recording a noticeable spike in centre bounce attendances. While this looks promising given his FWD status, he only scored 38 points. West Coast appears to be trialling a range of players in the midfield right now—last week it was Jack Hutchinson, who dropped out of the rotation this week. Take any role change here with a grain of salt.

Adam Treloar

Adam Treloar returned to the Bulldogs’ lineup after a long layoff with a calf injury but only attended seven centre bounces—a 57% drop from his last game. This is likely due to him being eased back in, but it’s worth monitoring. With Joel Freijah and Matt Kennedy now in the mix since his last appearance, Treloar may spend more time forward, which could be helpful for fantasy coaches if he gains DPP.
