Podcasters Keeper League Draft Results

The results are in!

We completed our podcasters keeper league draft a couple of weeks ago and today we bring you the results.

This post will allow you to look at our keepers we carried over into this season, and also let you view each teams’ selections.

At the end of the post, I will provide you with a short analysis of each teams draft, which picks stood out to me as good selections, and which picks I think could have been better.

Listen to our latest podcast:

Keepers

The lack of good forward options is obvious. Most teams elected to keep extra forwards, even if some players were injured or not in the best 22 conversations at this stage.

I could probably spend hours talking about selections, but it’s probably just easier to show you. Below are every team’s keepers heading into the 2021 season.

Draft Results

The draft results are posted below, but I’ll give a brief analysis of each team’s performances before taking a look at the selections in full.

Hoofas A-Grade

Heff has lost the past two grand finals with arguably the strongest performing team throughout the year. The strategy was clear – load up on established players early to have one final tilt before starting his rebuild. Kaes was impressed with his Jarman Impey selection at pick 329 overall on the podcast. Upon reflection, he probably went a little early on Michael Gibbons who doesn’t appear to be in the best 22 at this point in time. He would be very happy about getting Errol Gulden after his performance last weekend.

Sonny Boys

Kaes is the reigning premier and has aspirations of going back-to-back. He needed a forward early so he went with Jack Ziebell, but I’m not sure if this the correct decision, given he probably won’t play in the midfield this year and has shown in the past he needs to play there to score. Getting Isaac Cumming in the 3rd round was a great pick, and also selecting Bailey Scott in the 7th round (270 overall) was a success, given he’s a good chance to break out this season.

Seedsy Sextons

Lachie Jones slipping to the 9th round (286 overall) could prove to be a steal, given he’s a chance to debut early with all the pre-season hype. However, we’re not really sure what Tom McCartin offers in fantasy, so selecting him with his 8th round pick probably wasn’t a wise choice. Securing Ben Brown with the last pick of the draft was a great value pick and getting Cam Zurhaar in the 6th round was also nice.

Cam’s Potatoes

Cam opted to go with Finlay Macrae in the first round and it will be interesting to see if that pays off. He hasn’t shown much in terms of fantasy pedigree so far, and we’re hoping he hasn’t just selected him because of the name. Nick Hind was a good pick given the role he will likely play for Essendon, securing him in the 8th round (373 overall). Connor Downie could also turn out to be a nice selection, given his performance in the practice match against Western Bulldogs last week. There were a few questionable selections though in Lachie Young (3rd round, 223 overall) and Chayce Jones (round 9, 283 overall), as well as Isaac Chugg who is largely unknown in terms of fantasy potential. He has a funny name though…

Psycho Oracle

I have been in a couple of drafts with Archie this year and he has performed well both times. In this draft, I thought snagging Oscar McInerney in the 3rd round was a good get, given his potential to be a top 10 ruck (especially if he continues his form from the back end of last year). James Cousins could turn out to be a nice pick but probably went a little earlier than expected, selecting him with his 5th pick (245 overall). I also like the selection of Liam Ryan (pick 9, 285 overall) who can go big on his day. Ryan will be handy as a loop hole option given the league will be playing with a rolling lockout this year.

DTKeeperLeague

Sam did well to secure Tom Powell with his first pick, considering Finlay Macrae went before him. Getting Ely Smith at 277 overall could also prove to be a steal as he looks to cement his spot in Brisbane’s side this year. Connor Budarick‘s selection in the 10th round was also solid, given his scoring pedigree at junior level and he looks to be firmly planted in Gold Coast’s best 22. But his best pick was probably Toby Nankervis in the 2nd round, who probably should have been a keeper. It was an interesting decision from Zane to let him go.

SouthernGrizzlies CP

James managed to select Dyson Heppell in the second round, which is a quality pick given that he’ll likely gain DPP this season. Securing Damon Greaves in the 3rd round and Brayden Sier in the 4th round were also quality picks. Drafting Rhys Stanley at pick 16 was also a steal, given he can produce a lot more than many players that were drafted before him from a fantasy perspective.

Afternoon Dowlight

Although we don’t want to admit it, Dos had a pretty good draft. Taking Jamarra Ugle-Hagan in the 2nd round was probably a bit high, but Braeden Campbell now looks to be one of the best picks from the 2020 draft crop, and he secured him in the 3rd round. Picking up Seb Ross in the 6th round looks good given he’s a chance at DPP status, and Andrew McPherson (7th round, 262 overall) looks like he has some fantasy game. Getting Buddy Franklin with his last pick in the draft was also a nice touch.

The Great Bazinga

Picking up Matthew Flynn with pick 14 now looks to be a good get with Preuss’ injury, but apart from that it was hard to find too many positives from this draft. Sam Simpson was drafted way too early given his injury interrupted pre-season and shakey job security at Geelong. Tanner Bruin looks to be a good pick in the 6th round (251 overall) and should get some game time early, but Zane has taken a lot of speculative players that might not pay off in the long term.

Is Dom, Is Good

Christian nailed the first six picks of his draft, taking Will Phillips, Luke Pedlar, Jamie Elliot, Karl Amon, Liam Shiels and Jake Riccardi in succession. Jamie Elliot hasn’t proven to be a great fantasy scorer in the past, but given his forward status and midfield role, we’ll give it a tick for now. Luke Breust in the 17th round (364 overall) could be a big scorer up forward this year if the midfield time he has been given in pre-season matches continues.
