Captains
Picking a captain in keeper leagues can be a challenge, especially if injuries or lack of depth leave you without a standout option. That’s where we come in. Instead of the obvious choices, we’re looking at some under-the-radar captaincy options who could deliver big scores this week.
Toby Nankervis comes up against North Melbourne this weekend and has a strong record against them, averaging 107.3 from their last three meetings, including 123 the last time they faced off.
Harry Sheezel is averaging 106 this season and faces a favourable matchup against Richmond—an easy side to score against for both midfielders and defenders. Regardless of where he plays, he should put up a good score.
Tom Liberatore loves playing under the roof at Marvel Stadium, where he’s averaging 121.3 from his last three games. Coming off a 140-point game last week, he’s a strong captain option.
Lachie Ash is enjoying a breakout season and faces Fremantle, the fifth-easiest team for medium defenders to score against. He also had 97 the last time they played.
Luke Davies-Uniacke hasn’t been in peak form this season but he loves playing against Richmond. He’s averaging 115.3 from his last three against them. He also averages 120 from his last three games at the MCG.
Vice-Captain
For vice-captains, we focus on players featuring in the first two games of the round—guys who fit the same mold as our captains but aren’t the go-to selections. If you’re looking for an early VC loophole play, we’ve got you covered.
James Rowbottom scored 123 the last time he played Carlton, making him a strong VC candidate this week.
Karl Amon has averaged 104.7 in his last three games against Gold Coast. While he hasn’t played them at TIO Stadium before, he’s still worth a punt as a VC.
Chad Warner scored 117 the last time he played Carlton and averages 103.7 across their past three meetings. Another decent VC option to consider.
Touk Miller averages 102 from his last three games at TIO Stadium. The conditions suit his game, so he could easily hit the ton again this week.
Sam Walsh is averaging 96.4 this season, but has averaged 102.3 from his last three games at the SCG. Back him in for a decent VC score.
Streamers
Here we highlight players with strong scoring history against their upcoming opponents or other factors that suggest they could be worth a punt. Whether you’re scraping the waiver wire or looking for a sneaky bench loophole, these are the names to consider.
Scott Pendlebury might not qualify as a streamer in all leagues given his 80+ average, but he has a fantastic record against the Crows, averaging 103.7 in their last three meetings and 107.3 across his last three at the MCG.
Key forwards have scored well against North Melbourne recently, so Tom Lynch is a handy FWD option this week. He’s capable of kicking a bag against them.
Geelong are currently the easiest team for key forwards to score against, so if you’ve got Mitch Georgiades on your bench, it’s time to bring him onto the field.
On the flip side, Port Adelaide have been the easiest team for rucks to score against over the past five weeks. Last week, Mark Blicavs got the number one job. If he lines up there again, he could go big.
If Zak Jones comes into St Kilda’s side after his strong VFL showing, he should be considered for your field. West Coast are the easiest team for midfielders to score against, and Jones scored 102 the last time he played them, averaging 96.7 in their last three matchups.
