Each week, we rely on our AFL Fantasy Projections (available to members of The Keeper League) to identify some of the best captain options for your team.
While there are always some obvious captain options, we try to dig a little deeper to find less popular options due to the widespread nature of players in keeper leagues. However, if you have Uber premium players, please don’t take this article as advice not to put the captaincy on them.
In addition to the top captain options, we’ll also look at some streamer options who may not be automatic selections in your side but have a history of performing well against their opponents. These options are worth considering if you’re looking for a differential advantage in your matchup.
Captains
Rory Laird has a cracking record against Geelong averaging 110 AFL Fantasy Points against them of late. He is in great form at the moment going at 106 from his last five.
In the reverse I like the look at Tom Stewart against Adelaide; Tom is going at 120 AFL Fantasy Points from his last three and had 114 on the Crows recently.
Andrew Brayshaw makes the article again this week, fresh off 115 AFL Fantasy Points and having scored 129 last time he met Essendon.
Hugh McCluggage has hit form coming into AFL Fantasy Finals going at 116 AFL Fantasy Points from his last three and comes up against a point leaking St Kilda this week.
Luke Davies-Uniacke is going to run riot against a very poor Richmond outfit this week. North are storming home as the Tigers limp to the finish line, most recently LDU had 108 AFL Fantasy Points against the Tigers.
Vice-Captain
Jarrod Witts will absolutely dominate the West coast eagles on Friday night; when these teams last met Witts pumped out 135 AFL Fantasy Points.
Noah Anderson scored 111 AFL Fantasy Points the last time he played the West Coast Eagles and is a player I can’t see West Coast being able to limit.
Fresh off a 114 AFL Fantast Point game and up against a weakened Melbourne makes Ed Richards a really interesting VC Option for coaches this weekend.
Tim Kelly has averaged 103 AFL Fantasy Points against Gold Coast in recent years and is averaging 97 from his last three games.
Melbourne desperately needs Clayton Oliver to have a big game this weekend; he has recently averaged 110 AFL Fantasy Points against the Bulldogs and is coming off 100 last week.
Streamers
Alex Witherden is an absolute AFL Fantasy headache, but he Jeremy McGovern or Tom Cole make for great early loop options in defence this weekend.
Jack Graham is another headache at the moment, but the potential for Dion Prestia to be a late out opens up a midfield slot and he has averaged 101 AFL Fantasy Points from his last three against North Melbourne.
Scott Pendelbury is playing his 400th this weekend, this guy’s record speaks for itself but in a must win Milestone game I’d be fielding him.
Cameron Zurhaar just signed a contract extension and is averaging 85 AFL Fantasy Points from his last three games; against Richmond I’d start him.
Lachie Weller has scoring pedigree at Optus Stadium and is quietly piecing together a solid return to AFL Football post his second ACL. The Friday night game against West Coast provides owners a great opportunity to loop him on.
