Each week, we rely on our AFL Fantasy Projections (available to members of The Keeper League) to identify some of the best captain options for your team.
While there are always some obvious captain options, we try to dig a little deeper to find less popular options due to the widespread nature of players in keeper leagues. However, if you have Uber premium players, please don’t take this article as advice not to put the captaincy on them.
In addition to the top captain options, we’ll also look at some streamer options who may not be automatic selections in your side but have a history of performing well against their opponents. These options are worth considering if you’re looking for a differential advantage in your matchup.
Captains
Nasiah Wanganeen-Milera will have the ball on a string this week against a wooden spoon Richmond. Milera pumped out 127 AFL Fantasy Points the last time he played Richmond.
On the other side of the match up I like Tim Taranto, who has averaged 111 AFL Fantasy Points from his last three games against St Kilda. reverse
Jack Sinclair is another St Kilda player that I’d be putting the captaincy on this week. Sinclair is coming off 132 AFL Fantasy Points and should dine out against Richmond.
Patrick Cripps loves coming up against hawthorn with a 112 AFL Fantasy Point average from his last three against them. I expect the captain to drag his team across the line this week.
Melbourne can still give up points to defenders and if you believe the rumours, Dan Houston will be looking to impress his new club. Houston has averaged 106 AFL Fantasy Points from his last three against the Dees.
Vice-Captain
Chad Warner has had a disappointing few weeks, but with the heat on against a decimated Collingwood I am backing him to go big. Warner scored 112 AFL Fantasy Points against Collingwood earlier this year.
Colby McKercher is just a rookie however he has averaged 91 AFL Fantasy Points from his last three and plays West Coast at home.
He is coming off a significant injury lay off, but Josh Kelly is just too good not to loop. He scored 121 AFL Fantasy Points the last time he played the Lions.
Hugh McCluggage is the Lion that I am looping this week, going at 111 AFL Fantasy Points from his last three games.
Given he has averaged 106 AFL Fantasy Points from his last three games it is hard to overlook Darcy Cameron. The red flag here is his tough Brodie Grundy match up this week.
Streamers
Keep an eye on teams this week, because if Luke Parker starts on Friday night, then I am looking at him to score 90 AFL Fantasy Points or more.
Nick Larkey averages 77 AFL Fantasy Points from his last three against West Coast which includes a 107 from their last meet.
Dion Prestia has been racking up 20+ disposals per game and averaging 81 AFL Fantasy Points from his last three. He is playing for his spot in the Best 22 for Season 2025.
Keeper and Draft coaches aren’t giving Kane Farrell the respect he deserves. He is available in 46% of leagues and should be a lock starter coming off 96 AFL Fantasy Points and a Melbourne match up.
Sean Darcy is a big man and has fallen hard, now in the streamers! However, the softest ruck draw of all against Geelong should reward owners this week. My red flag here is that *checks notes* Sean Darcy is under a perennial injury cloud.
