Round 22: Captains and Streamers

Each week we use our AFL Fantasy Projections (available to members of The Keeper League) to find some of the best captain options for your sides.

There are always some obvious captain options, but we’ll try to dig a little deeper to find less popular options due to the widespread nature of players in keeper leagues. If you have the Uber premiums, then please don’t take this article as advice not to put the Captaincy on them.

For the streamer options, I’ll look at some players who perform well historically against their opponents that may not be automatic selections in your side.

Captains

Jordan Dawson averages 97 against North Melbourne and put up 120 against them in Round 15 this season. North Melbourne gives up a mountain of points and I expect Dawson to feast in defence.

Sam Walsh already averages 96 against the Melbourne Demons and with all the Blues outs, he should feature highly in the centre bounce rotations. Walsh had 121 against the Demons when they last met, but coaches be aware if James Harmes is named that a tag may be coming.

Darcy Parish had 119 against Port Adelaide in Round 11 this season and put up a respectable 98 last week in his first game back from injury. Parish’s only averaging 100 points this season but this is injury affected so it shouldn’t put coaches off.

Max Gawn comes up against a pretty beleaguered Carlton outfit coming off a whopping 152 points. I don’t care if he plays forward or ruck, Gawn will score against Carlton.

Vice-Captain

Jack Sinclair is averaging 105 from his last five rounds and had 105 against the Brisbane Lions in Round 13. Coaches will be hoping he continues the “105” trend this week on a Friday night.

Hugh McCluggage is averaging a super consistent 108 from his last five games. McCluggage had 114 against St Kilda earlier this season and is a great vice-captain loophole option.

Adam Treloar has always enjoyed matchups against his second former club Greater Western Sydney. Treloar averages 98 against the Giants and scored 102 against them earlier this season.

Lachie Whitfield returned to some form last week with a 112 against Essendon. Whitfield averages 96 against the Western Bulldogs and is hard to go past as a vice-captain loophole option.

Stephen Coniglio had 105 against the Western Bulldogs earlier this season and is averaging 103 from his last five rounds. His return to form in the GWS midfield makes him an obvious loophole option this week.

Streamers

Xavier Duursma averages 84 against Essendon and had 101 against them in 2021. With Port’s season all but over I expect them to put game time into Duursma.

Jacob Wietering has the “stream defenders against Melbourne” match-up this weekend. Weitering is coming off an 82 against the Lions, plus the weakened Blues midfield should result in more forward entries for Melbourne.

Harry Schoenberg has been a bit of a disappointment, however, if selected he has a good history against North Melbourne. Harry averages 92 against North, top scoring against them for the Crows last year with 118 points.

Jesse Hogan is in ripping form averaging 89 from his last five rounds. Hogan averages 87 against the Western Bulldogs and plays early enough to use as a loophole option.

Jack Silvagni averages 78 against the Melbourne Demons with a 109 against them way back in 2019. Silvagni could be used in a myriad of roles, but if he’s used on the ball he has shown he can score.
