Round 4: Captains and Streamers

Each week we use our AFL Fantasy Projections (available to members of The Keeper League) to find some of the best captain options for your sides.

There are always some very obvious captain options, but we’ll try to dig a little deeper to find less popular options due to the widespread nature of players in keeper leagues. If you have the Uber premiums, then please don’t take this article as advice not to put the Captaincy on them.

For the streamer options, I’ll look at some players who perform well historically against their opponents that may not be automatic selections in your side.

Captains

Brad Crouch currently averages  105 and has an average of 101 against Hawthorn. In addition, the Hawks gave up 100+ scores to four of Carlton’s midfielders last week.

Sam Docherty has had a stellar start to the season averaging 113 points. This week he plays the Gold Coast Suns, a team he averages 100 against and scored 108 on last season.

Jack Crisp averages a healthy 93 points against the West Coast Eagles and scored 125 against them in Round 20 last season.  The kicker is the fact that Crisp also averages 96 points at Marvel Stadium.

Adam Treloar is averaging bang on 100 points this season and has continued his presence at centre bounces. Treloar averages 102 against Richmond and the Tigers continue to leak points to strong midfield.

Brodie Grundy hasn’t hit the peaks that coaches were expecting this season, however, he averages 97 against the West Coast Eagles and had 129 against them last year.

Vice-Captain

Ollie Wines will be seething after the Showdown loss and will come out with a point to prove. Wines average 95 against Melbourne and had 105 on them in 2021.

Dayne Zorko has been carrying an injury all season, he has also been carrying a lot of the pill. He has had 145 and 106 in his last two games and had 142 on Geelong last season.

Travis Boak just continues to get it done, already averaging 125 this season. Boak averages 94 against Melbourne and had 93 on them in their last encounter.

Christian Petracca feels like an ‘obvious’ pick but coaches might be a bit down on him after his 83 last week. Petracca is still averaging 120 and he had 154 on Port Adelaide in 2021.

Streamers

Willem Drew holds his place in the streamers this week with a healthy 86 average against Melbourne.  He had 87 on them last season and a potential tagging role means lots of tackles.

Lachie Schultz almost made the article last week but I’m squeezing him in this week. Schultz averages 86 against Greater Western Sydney and had 119 on them in Round 2 of 2022.

Will Hayward is ticking along with an average of 69 and this week he plays a very mediocre North Melbourne. Hayward had a season-high 115 on the Roos in Round 22 last year.

Brodie Mihocek averages 74 against the West Coast Eagles and had 87 against them in season 2021. Against a depleted Eagles outfit I think his floor will be high, making him a great stream option.

Jacob Weitering only averages 65 against the Gold Coast Suns however the Suns really lack a dominant forward at the moment which could see Weitering rack up a few +6’s.
