Round 5: Captains & Streamers

Each week we use our AFL Fantasy Projections (available to members of The Keeper League) to find some of the best captain options for your sides.

There are always some very obvious captain options, but we’ll try to dig a little deeper to find less popular options due to the widespread nature of players in keeper leagues.

For the streamer options, we’ll take a look at some players who perform well historically against their opponents that may not be automatic selections in your side.

Captains

Clayton Oliver is my number one candidate this week. He comes up against the Hawks, who have been giving up a fair stack of points. Add this to the fact that Oliver scored 145 on them the last time these two teams met, count me in

Jake Lloyd has been slightly down on his lofty form of season 2020, but this week he comes up against GWS. The last time they played he also scored 145 (could be a magic number for Round 5).

Cam Guthrie has arguably had the best late career bloom ‘of all time’. He is currently averaging 113 and plays North Melbourne this week. Get ready for another huge score.

Luke Parker is having a great season, currently averaging 106 and is the prime ball winner in the Sydney midfield. His opponent, GWS, have taken a real hit with injuries in recent weeks. They consistently give up points and the last time Parker played them, he pumped out 135.

Vice-Captain Loop Options

Jack Steele would have been my number one captain option this week, but the Thursday game gives coaches the ultimate free kick.

Brad Crouch averages 102 against St Kilda and is coming off a score of 125. I think he presents a safe VC Loop option.

Tim Kelly comes up against an injury-riddled Collingwood on Friday night. They gave up 4 x 100+ scores last round and Kelly has assumed the mantle of number 1 mid at the WCE, with no Shuey.

Bachar Houli had his first game back last round from an injury lay off and did not disappoint owners, with a score of 110. The last time he played St Kilda, he scored 128. Houli looks to have that same freewheeling role coaches have come to know and love.

Streamers

Nick Blakey has been pretty flat, based on expectations this season. He is only 61% owned and most coaches (including myself) have him on the bench. Hopefully this is the week he bounces back, coming up against GWS whom he scored 112 on last season.

Shane Edwards once again features in my streamers article. He has been attending a high number of centre bounces, has a Thursday night game and is currently averaging 77. Edwards is the definition of ‘safe emergency loop option’.

Jamie Cripps has a Friday night game against Collingwood, averages 70 against them and 72 on his home deck at Optus. The last time he played the Pies, he missed out on a tonne by 1 point.

Nick Coffield gives owners a safe loop option this week, playing Richmond on Thursday night. He has been well down on form, but owners will hope he can get close to the 96 he scored on the Tigers in their last battle.

Jordan Clark plays North Melbourne this round. He scored 95 on them the last time they matched up. North have been the opponent to stream against this season.
