Round 7: Captains and Streamers

Each week we use our AFL Fantasy Projections (available to members of The Keeper League) to find some of the best captain options for your sides.

There are always some very obvious captain options, but we’ll try to dig a little deeper to find less popular options due to the widespread nature of players in keeper leagues. If you have the Uber premiums, then please don’t take this article as advice not to put the Captaincy on them.

For the streamer options, I’ll look at some players who perform well historically against their opponents that may not be automatic selections in your side.

Captains

Matt Crouch has had a slow start to season 2022 off the back of an injury effected 2021. His CBA numbers have increased significantly over the last fortnight. He averages 109 against Greater Western Sydney and scored 125 when he last played against them in 2020.

Josh Kelly is averaging 95 against his Crow opponents and pumped out 121 against them in Round 7, 2021. The sweetener being he averages 107 at the Adelaide Oval.

Touk Miller hasn’t reached his lofty heights yet this season, however he averages 100 against Collingwood and had a 130 against them last year. The Pies gave up three 100+ scores to midfielders on Anzac Day.

Brad Crouch averages 121 points at Cazalys Stadium and had a 36 disposal, 126 point game against Port Adelaide in Round 18 last season.

Lachie Whitfield averages 90 against the Adelaide Crows and 91 at Adelaide Oval. Whitfield had 110 on the Crows when they last met in Round 7 last season.

Vice-Captain

Alex Witherden has been mopping up down back for the West Coast Eagles and has a respectable 80 average against Richmond. He averages 90 at Optus Stadium and had an 89 on the Tigers in 2021.

Nick Vlastuin isn’t a name you would comfortably Captain, however he is a perfect Friday night VC option. Vlastuin is averaging 111 and coming off the back of 131 in Round 6.

Tim Kelly averages 113 against Richmond and scored 93 (BCV 116) when he last played them in 2020.

Toby Nankervis comes up against a ruckless West Coast Eagles side this week. The Eagles have given up two 100+ scores and one 90+ score to opposition ruckmen since Nic Natanui went down.

Streamers

Brodie Mihocek is a ‘streamers article’ favourite of mine. This week he faces the Gold Coast Suns, a team he averages 83 against. Mihocek had 136 on the Suns in Round 7, 2021.

Todd Goldstein has had his worst start to the season since I was a child. However, with news that Xerri is out there is a chance that forward eligible Goldstein gets an increased opportunity in the ruck.

Bailey Scott has taken up a fantasy-friendly role in defence in Hall’s absence. Scott averages 74 against Carlton and scored 81 on them in Round 19 last season.

Darcy Cameron is another forward eligible ruck that should benefit from injury carnage. Cameron dominated NEAFL and VFL as sole ruck and should get an opportunity this week.
