Round 8: Captains and Streamers

Each week we use our AFL Fantasy Projections (available to members of The Keeper League) to find some of the best captain options for your sides.

There are always some very obvious captain options, but we’ll try to dig a little deeper to find less popular options due to the widespread nature of players in keeper leagues. If you have the Uber premiums, then please don’t take this article as advice not to put the Captaincy on them.

For the streamer options, I’ll look at some players who perform well historically against their opponents that may not be automatic selections in your side.

Captains

Jack Crisp scored 94 points in two quarters of football on the weekend. This week he faces Richmond who gives away the second-most points to midfielders. In addition, Crisp scored 118 points on the Tigers in Round 17 last year.

Darcy Parish could be an uber-premium if he used his foot a little more. This week he faces Hawthorn who gives the most points away to midfielders. He only averages 81 against the Hawks but I expect him to buck that trend.

Hugh McCluggage has continued with his CBA increase and is averaging 100 from his last three games. This week he faces the West Coast ‘witches hat’ Eagles who are giving away the second-most points in the competition.

James Sicily has had an outstanding return to AFL Fantasy averaging 99 points. Essendon has been giving up the fourth-most points to intercept defenders, giving the Western Bulldogs two 100+ defender scores on the weekend.

Isaac Heeney has become the most elite medium forward in the competition. This week he plays the Gold Coast Suns which he averages 87 against and scored 99 against in 2021.

Vice-Captain

Bailey Smith comes up against a middling Port Adelaide on Friday night. Smith is going at 122 this season and is an absolute gift as a VC option.

Caleb Serong had 143 points on North Melbourne in Round 6, 2021. The Kangaroos leak the most points in the competition and gave Carlton seven 95+ scores.

Jy Simpkin hasn’t quite hit the ceiling owners were hoping for but is still North’s best midfield option. Simpkin had a 90 on Fremantle last season and is currently averaging 92.

Travis Boak has been Port Adelaide’s best midfielder this season with an average of 112. He’s had a reduction in CBA’s but is still going at a 94 average from his last three games.

Streamers

Darcy Tucker has been solid without setting the world on fire this season. He averages 78 against North Melbourne and has a Friday night game, perfect for loopholing.

Lance Franklin is averaging 81 points from his last three games and had 109 on the Gold Coast Suns in Round 23 last year.

Taylor Duryea plays Friday night against Port Adelaide whom he averages 72 against. He is going at an average of 82 points from his last three and is a solid loophole option this week.

Jye Caldwell has to bounce back this week as he plays Hawthorn who on average leak 90 points per game to midfielders. Caldwell averages 88 against the Hawks and has scored 104 against them previously.

Dane Rampe is back in the streamers list this week with a game against the Gold Coast Suns. Gold Coast give up the second-most points to defenders and Rampe averages 85 against them.
