Round 9: Captains and Streamers

Each week we use our AFL Fantasy Projections (available to members of The Keeper League) to find some of the best captain options for your sides.

There are always some very obvious captain options, but we’ll try to dig a little deeper to find less popular options due to the widespread nature of players in keeper leagues. If you have the Uber premiums, then please don’t take this article as advice not to put the Captaincy on them.

For the streamer options, I’ll look at some players who perform well historically against their opponents that may not be automatic selections in your side.

Captains

Jarrod Lyons averages a whopping 109 against his former club Adelaide. If you want further incentive then look no further than Lyons monster score of 133 in Round 16 last year against the Crows

Josh Kelly averages 109 against Carlton with a ceiling of 153. Miraculously Kelly has not scored below 100 against the Blues since Round 22 in 2015.

Mitch Duncan is a player I claimed was ‘cooked’ but like my fantasy classic loops, I was so wrong. Duncan put up a 124 in Round 8 and averages 103 against St Kilda which includes his 134 against them in Round 9 2021.

Travis Boak is still putting his younger Port counterparts on his back with a team-high 110 in Round 8. Boak had 109 on North Melbourne in 2021 and has only dropped below 100 twice this season.

Vice-Captain

Tom Liberatore is not the most high profile Western Bulldogs player, but he has seen an increase in CBA’s, averages 100 against Collingwood and is going at 94 from his last three rounds.

Jordan DeGoey’s increase in forward time could be a boon for coaches this round. The Western Bulldogs are undermanned in defence and give up the third most points to tall targets.

Dustin Martin made his return last week with a respectable 84. This week he plays Hawthorn, a team he averages 93 on and scored 100 against in 2021.

James Sicily let me down last round but he averages 80 against Richmond and has shown a ceiling this season and has a high score of 110 against the Tigers.

Streamers

John Noble averages 76 against the Western Bulldogs and had an 86 against them way back in Round 1 of 2021. The Friday night game gives owners a handy loop option.

Darcy Moore is another Friday night Collingwood player I like the look of. The Bulldogs leak points to intercept defenders and Moore scored an 85 against them last season.

Blake Hardwick averages 78 against Richmond and had 86 and 135 on them in the 2021 season. Hardwick also gains some handy +3s through the Hawks kick-in rotation.

Lincoln McCarthy could be a beneficiary of the injuries that have decimated the Brisbane Lions’ forward line. McCarthy scored 95 against the Crows last season and has had two 100+ scores already this season.

Tom Sparrow has had back to back scores of 95 and is currently averaging 70 as a Mid/Forward option. This week you probably should stream any Melbourne option, but I like Sparrow.
