State League AFL Fantasy Scores – Week 3, 2025

Each week, we track the standout AFL Fantasy scorers in the state leagues to identify potential cash cows, role changes, and possible inclusions. This weekend had a few big scores and some intriguing role notes, especially from clubs with selection pressure building due to injuries or poor form at AFL level.

VFL

Ben Camporeale put his name forward with a strong midfield performance for Carlton in the VFL. He scored 91 points and could be an option to bolster their midfield stocks, especially with a few underperformers in the seniors.

Elijah Hollands and Harry McKay both returned through the VFL but didn’t set the world on fire. Hollands managed 68 and McKay just 60, but regardless of their scores, both are likely to return to the AFL side very soon.

James Tunstill continues to put up solid numbers for Brisbane, finishing with 110 points. Henry Smith was dominant, finishing with 33 hitouts, three goals, and 158 points. If Joe Daniher misses at any stage, Smith could be the man to step in – especially given Logan Morris struggled and was subbed out on the weekend.

Lockie Sullivan had a strong fantasy game for Collingwood with 101 points, but it’s hard to see him replicating that if he cracks the senior side. Finlay Macrae also had a decent outing with 82 points.

For North Melbourne, George Wardlaw made his return from injury with a strong showing in the VFL, scoring 90 points. Will Phillips put up a big score as well with 113 points, but Wardlaw’s return probably blocks Phillips’ immediate path back into the AFL side. Taylor Goad shouldered the bulk of the ruck load, scoring 73, and could be a smoky inclusion if Tristan Xerri doesn’t get up this week.

Arie Schoenmaker was again solid for St Kilda, scoring 109 points, and continues to hover on the verge of a call-up – he’s been named in extended squads multiple times and is clearly right there.

At the Giants, Harry Rowston just keeps racking up points, notching 125 on the weekend, and it was encouraging to see Jack Ough – a new draftee I had pegged as a good fantasy scorer from his underage days – also post a big score with 122 points. Nathan Wardius scored 153, but he’s still a fair way off AFL level and his role isn’t suited to consistent scoring.

Jhye Clark responded well to being dropped by Geelong, winning plenty of footy in the midfield and finishing with 106 points. Mitch Duncan had a solid day too, scoring 86, but I’m not expecting him back in the senior side just yet.

Brayden Fiorini put up another big fantasy game with 156 points and could come in for Connor Budarick if he doesn’t pull up this week. That said, Alex Sexton – who also had a strong showing with 135 – might be the preferred replacement if they want to plug a defensive hole.

SANFL

Billy Dowling is continuing his fantasy form at SANFL level, scoring 113 points, but it’s hard to see where he fits into the Crows’ AFL side right now.

Chris Burgess had a day out kicking five goals and was dominant in the air, finishing with 94 points, but the Adelaide forward line is just too stacked at the moment for him to crack back in.

Riley O’Brien didn’t exactly set the world on fire on the weekend in the seniors, and I wouldn’t be surprised to see Lachlan McAndrew come into the mix at some stage this season after his dominant SANFL outing where he scored 125 points. He might be one to stash for the future.

Over at Port, Rory Atkins put his hand up with a 100-point performance. With Logan Evans being the sub on Sunday, he might be due for a run in the twos, making way for Atkins. That change feels like it’s coming.

WAFL

Owners would’ve been pleased with Will Brodie again – he’s been playing in the midfield and scoring well over the past few weeks. He posted 99 points and could be the Nathan O’Driscoll replacement if he misses with injury. James Aish is another candidate to come in, after scoring 84 points in the WAFL.

Sean Darcy and Hayden Young both returned on the weekend. They didn’t post huge scores – Darcy scored 62 and Young 75 – and were clearly eased back in, but should come straight back into the AFL side this week.

At West Coast, Matt Flynn was a standout with a monster 157-point performance. With their ruck situation still looking dicey, he could be brought in sooner rather than later.

Fantasy coaches should be keeping a close eye on state league performances for potential mid-season pick ups and dynasty gold.
