State League AFL Fantasy Scores – Week 9, 2025

Each week, we track the standout AFL Fantasy scorers in the state leagues to identify potential cash cows, role changes, and possible inclusions. There were some big scores and intriguing role developments, especially where injuries or poor form could open the door for changes at AFL level.

VFL

Sam Butler had a huge game, scoring 156 points off the back of 42 disposals, 10 marks, and five tackles. Given Hawthorn’s poor performance on the weekend, there’s a chance he comes in—but I don’t see how he breaks into the side just yet. Seamus Mitchell also scored well with 137 points, and Henry Hustwaite put in another solid midfield performance with 117 points. But if he didn’t get a call-up last week, it’s hard to see how he does this week.

Jack Billings was dominant for the Casey Demons, scoring 134 points. However, with Melbourne recording a strong win over Sydney, I can’t see them making many changes. Tom Campbell, Jacob van Rooyen, and Bailey Laurie also played well.

Youngsters Harry DeMattia and Jakob Ryan both had big games for Collingwood. DeMattia racked up 36 disposals and eight tackles for 130 points, while Ryan had 10 marks and 25 disposals to score 101 points. Tom Mitchell continued his return to football but had just two kicks to go with 16 handballs and eight tackles, totalling 70 points.

Darcy Parish returned via the VFL and scored 83 points from 25 disposals and seven tackles. He might need another week or two before being recalled. Meanwhile, Elijah Tsatas was best on ground with 104 points from 33 disposals. Vigo Visentini continued to impress in the ruck with 31 hitouts and 97 points, while Dylan Shiel had 82 points going back to playing VFL.

Cam Guthrie and Jack Martin both returned for Geelong through the VFL. Both were on managed minutes, but Martin was the better performer with 18 disposals, eight marks, and 72 points. Guthrie only managed 41 points.

Alex Davies, Alex Sexton, and Connor Budarick were the standouts for Gold Coast, all scoring over 100 points. But with the Suns travelling well, it’s hard to see any of them breaking into the side any time soon.

Jack Ough, a first-year player taken at pick 36 in last year’s draft, had 22 disposals, 12 tackles, six marks, and a goal for 120 points. He was a decent AFL Fantasy scorer as an underager and could be worth picking up in keeper leagues. Nick Madden also put in another solid game in the ruck, but it seems unlikely GWS will use him this season.

Another draftee to perform well was Luke Urquart for North Melbourne. He was another prolific junior fantasy scorer and had 23 disposals, seven marks, and six tackles for 112 points. However, like Will Phillips, who had a massive 129-point game, they would need North to change up their midfield structure significantly to get a look in.

Tyler Sonsie continues to dominate at VFL level, collecting 37 disposals, seven marks, and eight tackles for 151 points. He could be nearing a re-call in Richmond’s developing side.

Jack Carroll starred for Sandringham in the midfield, finishing with 28 disposals, eight tackles, and two goals. I expect him to get a run in St Kilda’s midfield soon. With forward status, he’s probably worth picking up. Hugo Garcia also responded well to being dropped, scoring 112 points from 27 disposals, three marks, and 10 tackles.

SANFL

There wasn’t much to write home about in the SANFL.

Charlie Edwards and Lachlan Murphy were the Crows’ best, but neither seem close to senior selection. Lachlan McAndrew had a solid outing in the ruck with 88 points, but it’s unlikely Adelaide will go with him over Reilly O’Brien.

Will Lorenz and Jordan Sweet both scored 110 AFL Fantasy points in Port’s reserves. Sweet was particularly dominant with 40 hitouts, 18 disposals, and two goals. He looks a strong chance to return to Port’s senior side after the bye.

WAFL

James Aish was best afield for Peel Thunder with 28 disposals, eight marks, and 111 points. Liam Reidy also played well, scoring 89 points from 48 hitouts. However, Fremantle’s ruck setup makes it unlikely he’ll get a game anytime soon given there are doubts over Sean Sarcy getting back into the side. Nathan O’Driscoll played his second game back from injury but only managed 59 points.

West Coast’s WAFL team is struggling just as much as their AFL side. Luca Greeco was the only AFL-listed player of note, scoring just 75 points, so take from that what you will.

Fantasy coaches should be keeping a close eye on state league performances for potential mid-season pick ups and dynasty gold.
