Round 16, 2024: Captains and Streamers – AFL Fantasy

Each week, we rely on our AFL Fantasy Projections (available to members of The Keeper League) to identify some of the best captain options for your team.

While there are always some obvious captain options, we try to dig a little deeper to find less popular options due to the widespread nature of players in keeper leagues. However, if you have Uber premium players, please don’t take this article as advice not to put the captaincy on them.

In addition to the top captain options, we’ll also look at some streamer options who may not be automatic selections in your side but have a history of performing well against their opponents. These options are worth considering if you’re looking for a differential advantage in your matchup.

Captains

Noah Anderson has averaged 117 AFL Fantasy Points from his last three against Collingwood and has averaged 100 from his last five games this season.

Tim Taranto is an AFL Fantasy stud coming off a 127 in his last match and averaging 112 from his last three against Carlton.

With an impressive 112 AFL Fantasy Point average from his last five games, Jack Crisp has really bounced back in the second half of the season. Crisp has also averaged 102 points from his last three against Gold Coast.

Will Day average does not currently reflect his scoring capacity, given a return from a long injury lay off. However, this week I am backing him to go big against West Coast at Optus Stadium.

Nic Newman has the softest match up an AFL Fantasy defender could ask for this week. Newman had 107 AFL Fantasy Points against Richmond earlier this year and I see him doing it again.

Vice-Captain

Tom Liberatore has averaged 103 AFL Fantasy Points from his last three against North Melbourne; he is coming off a 105 and should monster North Melbourne.

Hugh McCluggage had 132 AFL Fantasy Points at his last game at the GABBA averaging 111 from his last three at the venue; I think he’s a great VC option.

Averaging 102 AFL Fantasy Points from his last five games has me very interested in Hayden Young against Sydney on Saturday.

Brody Grundy is too good around the ground, and I fear that Sean Darcy may struggle to go with him. Grundy is averaging 116 AFL Fantasy Points from his last five games.

Zac Fisher is another player in a rich vein of form and should see plenty of ball in defence this week against the Western Bulldogs. Fisher has averaged 98 AFL Fantasy Points from his last three at Marvel.

Streamers

Sam Draper benefited from being the sole ruck last week, so watch for teams and if he is R1 again with his forward status coaches should start him.

Coming back from another elbow injury Cody Weightman will be licking his lips at a North match up. Weightman scored 108 AFL Fantasy Points the last time he played North.

Jack Scrimshaw is coming off an 81 AFL Fantasy Point game and scored 99 the last time he played the West Coast Eagles.

I know this is a bit risky, but Liam Ryan played in the middle a bit last week and added a different dynamic; with a game against the Hawks at home and with forward status I think it’s worth the risk.

Lachie Bramble has solidified that half Back role and is getting some kick-ins. Coming up against North Melbourne and off a 134 AFL Fantasy Point game I’d be playing him.
