Round 17, 2024: Captains and Streamers – AFL Fantasy

Each week, we rely on our AFL Fantasy Projections (available to members of The Keeper League) to identify some of the best captain options for your team.

While there are always some obvious captain options, we try to dig a little deeper to find less popular options due to the widespread nature of players in keeper leagues. However, if you have Uber premium players, please don’t take this article as advice not to put the captaincy on them.

In addition to the top captain options, we’ll also look at some streamer options who may not be automatic selections in your side but have a history of performing well against their opponents. These options are worth considering if you’re looking for a differential advantage in your matchup.

Captains

Jordon Clark has the dream matchup this week against Richmond; he is having a career best season and averaging 110 AFL Fantasy Points from his last five games.

Tim Taranto makes my article again this week given he had 129 AFL Fantasy Points the last time he played Fremantle, and he is going at 109 from his last three.

Jack Viney is fresh off a 104 AFL Fantasy Point game and scored 104 points last time he played th West Coast Eagles, Owners will be hoping good things come in threes for owners here!

Patrick Cripps scored 129 AFL Fantasy Points on the weekend and has averaged 126 from his last three games against Greater Western Sydney.

Chad Warner has had a recent dip in his fantasy scoring; but this week I am expecting a huge lift against a very low-quality St Kilda midfield unit.

Vice-Captain

Jye Caldwell has averaged a miraculous 122 AFL Fantasy Points from his last three games and become so much more than just a tagger.

Colby McKercher prior to his foot injury was averaging 99 AFL Fantasy Points from his last three games; the absence of Zac Fisher could see a career best night for Colby.

Averaging 102 AFL Fantasy Points from his last five games plus the early loop makes Bailey Dale an ideal VC Loop candidate this week.

Zak Butters pumped out a whopping 121 AFL Fantasy Points the last time he played the Western Bulldogs; this guy is so close to uber-premium status.

Touk Miller has seen a decrease in his CBA attendances, but the outside role could see an uptick in points this week given that North leak a mountain of uncontested possession.

Streamers

Sam Draper has once again been named as solo-ruck; with a Friday night game he is the ideal forward loop candidate.

Another Ruck who will be rocking the solo mantle is Ned Moyle. Don’t let his numbers fool you this kid has the potential to be a super fantasy scorer any time Witts misses.

Matt Johnson averages 95 AFL Fantasy Points against Richmond and plays them at home this week; the only red flag is he is currently named on the bench.

Ben Ainsworth is fresh off a 113 AFL Fantasy Point game and has averaged 84 against North Melbourne from his last three against them.

Steven May has been a tad underwhelming in recent weeks, however a game against the West Coast Eagles at the MCG should see this prolific intercept marker wrack up the +6’s.
