CBAs Analysis: Round 14, 2023 – AFL Fantasy

See who the winners and losers were in the CBAs over the weekend.

CBAs – Centre Bounce Attendances – is a statistic that measures the number of times a player is present at a centre bounce at the beginning of a quarter or following a goal. A player that has a high attendance rate at CBAs is around the footy more and (in some cases) in a more fantasy-friendly midfield role.

Analyse the CBAs from the football weekend in our user-friendly tables in our premium resources section – featuring advanced analytical tools to better measure the most significant changes, seasonally and week-to-week.

Nick Daicos

Over his last three games, Nick Daicos has spent more time at the centre bounce. It’s taken him away from his usual designated kicker role with a small drop in kick-ins. Daicos has averaged 42% CBAs over the last 3 weeks.

How is this affecting his scoring? Daicos has averaged 33.7 points per game from stoppages which has helped to maintain his season average..An intriguing matchup this week between Daicos and Ben Keays.

Elliot Yeo

After two weeks in the midfield, Elliot Yeo was moved into defence against the Crows. After 67% CBAs in the previous two weeks he attended just 29% against the Crows. However, he scored a season high 95 fantasy points despite the drop in CBAs.

Yeo scored 26 points from stoppages, 18 from kick-ins and 51 from turnover proving the defensive role was there. Is this a benefit for his scoring after 54 stoppage points against the Pies? A versatile player that needs some role consistency before we can trust him.

Zac Bailey

I was keen on Bailey’s prospects as a long term pick and owners will be pleased to see him get some midfield time. Brisbane have run with a wide mix behind Neale and Dunkley so Bailey had a season high 45% CBAs in Round 14.

With McCluggage likely to return the midfield minutes might not continue for Zac Bailey but after a best-on-ground performance, maybe he can be next in line.

Trent Cotchin

Under the new coach, Cotchin has returned to the midfield, averaging 64% CBAs over the last 3 games. It has helped his scoring output with scores of 93 and 119 leading into the bye.

He will have a lower average due to games as the substitute earlier this season so he will be low on the list of waivers. With MID/FWD status he could be a great steal to help you reach the finals.

Josh Kelly

Kelly returned from injury in Round 14 but surprisingly only attended 17% of centre bounces. Callan Ward maintained the third midfield position while Kelly played on the wing. It didn’t hurt Kelly’s score with a match-best 120 fantasy points.

His scoring came predominantly from transition and three goals. He scored 46 points in the last quarter when the game was done.
