Each week, we rely on our AFL Fantasy Projections (available to members of The Keeper League) to identify some of the best captain options for your team.
While there are always some obvious captain options, we try to dig a little deeper to find less popular options due to the widespread nature of players in keeper leagues. However, if you have Uber premium players, please don’t take this article as advice not to put the captaincy on them.
In addition to the top captain options, we’ll also look at some streamer options who may not be automatic selections in your side but have a history of performing well against their opponents. These options are worth considering if you’re looking for a differential advantage in your matchup.
Captains
Dan Houston is coming fresh off 119 AFL Fantasy Points on the weekend and he pumped out 117 on St Kilda last season.
This week we get to see Errol Gulden come up against the pedestrian Hawthorn midfield. Gulden is averaging 108 AFL Fantasy Points from his last five games.
Marcus Bontempelli is going to give Fremantle another battering this weekend. The Bont scored 116 AFL Fantasy Points the last time these two clubs met.
This week will see the return of perennial good bloke Matt Crouch who is averaging 102 AFL Fantasy Points this season. I expect him to get a mountain of the ball against North Melbourne.
Brodie Grundy absolutely dined out last week scoring 142 AFL Fantasy Points and I wouldn’t be surprised if he hits the 120 mark against Hawthorn.
Vice-Captain
Liam Baker has been filling in that Tim Taranto role and is currently averaging 103 AFL Fantasy Points from his last three games.
It’s been a flat season by Christian Petracca’s lofty standards; however, he scored 118 AFL Fantasy Points against Richmond last time they met.
Nick Daicos scored 140 AFL Fantasy Points the last time he played against Essendon. The early round game makes him an obvious vice-captain option.
Josh Kelly has averaged 100 AFL Fantasy Points against Brisbane Lions from his last three, which includes 125 points last time they played. Stephen Coniglio is also missing from the side so this should equate to a good score.
Kieran Biggs will have a very soft game this weekend with Oscar Mcinerney going down with concussion, you can pencil him in for most the hit outs and should comfortably outwork Fort.
Streamers
If told Goldstein is dropped from the Essendon lineup, then I would be fielding Sam Draper with his newfound forward status.
Jy Simpkin has just added forward status and should come out against Adelaide steaming. North Melbourne has been deplorable, and he is their captain so he should stand up if the role is there.
Scott Pendlebury scored 89 AFL Fantasy Points against Essendon last season and on ANZAC Day I am predicting a huge lift from him if he is fit to play.
With his newfound forward status and the Wednesday game, I am streaming Tom Sparrow. He has averaged 82 AFL Fantasy Points from his last three games against Richmond.
Ben Hobbs is fresh off a 99 AFL Fantasy point game; he has forward status proving he can score without CBAs pushing up to the contest. After this week he’ll become 100% started in all teams!
