Round 6, 2024: Captains and Streamers – AFL Fantasy

Each week, we rely on our AFL Fantasy Projections (available to members of The Keeper League) to identify some of the best captain options for your team.

While there are always some obvious captain options, we try to dig a little deeper to find less popular options due to the widespread nature of players in keeper leagues. However, if you have Uber premium players, please don’t take this article as advice not to put the captaincy on them.

In addition to the top captain options, we’ll also look at some streamer options who may not be automatic selections in your side but have a history of performing well against their opponents. These options are worth considering if you’re looking for a differential advantage in your matchup.

Captains

Josh Kelly could see a bump in his midfield usage with the absence of Stephen Coniglio. To sweeten it, Kelly has averaged 123 AFL Fantasy Points from his last three games against Carlton.

Coaches that bought into the Tristen Xerri pre-season hype have been handsomely rewarded. This week Xerri has a good ruck match-up against Hawthorn.

Hayden Young is the third banana in the midfield at Fremantle but I’m expecting him to be a big banana this weekend. Young is averaging 104 AFL Fantasy Points from his last three and comes up against the West Coast Eagles.

The ceiling scores are back from Errol Gulden and I am back on him as a captain this week. Gulden is fresh off 127 AFL Fantasy Points and will rise for the Gold Coast Suns challenge.

Luke-Davies Uniacke makes my article again this week; He had 138 AFL Fantasy Points against Hawthorn last year and averages 124 against them from their most recent three matchups.

Vice-Captain

Adam Treloar is going to rack up plenty of loose ball against St Kilda on Thursday night. Treloar is averaging 111 AFL Fantasy Points from his last three and is in great form.

I’ve said this before, but I feel Jack Sinclair is due for a big one. It’s the Thursday night fixture and Sinclair has averaged 110 AFL Fantasy Points from his last three against the Western Bulldogs.

Tim English was pretty flat last week against Essendon, but this week I feel the battle against Rowan Marshall will have him up and about. English had 117 AFL Fantasy Points against St Kilda last year.

Nasiah Wanganeen-Milera is the kind of ball user who can cut the Western Bulldogs open. Milera is averaging 107 AFL Fantasy Points from his last three games.

Darcy Parish rarely has three bad games in a row. This could be a fool me thrice moment, but Parish scored 126 AFL Fantasy Points against Adelaide last season.

Streamers

This is a big ‘if’ after his performance on the weekend but if Matt Johnson plays against West Coast on the weekend he will score! Johnson had 111 AFL Fantasy points against the Eagles last year.

Matt Kennedy benefitted from the McGovern and Saad injuries with 91 AFL Fantasy Points on the weekend. Kennedy averages 103 from his last three against Greater Western Sydney.

Lachie Schultz has a good record against Port Adelaide, scoring 100 AFL Fantasy Points against them last season; and a three-game rolling average of 76 against them to boot.

There should be a bit of a bump on the cards for Luke McDonald given the McKercher injury. McDonald is coming off a 95 AFL Fantasy Point game and had 84 on the Hawks last year.

James Harmes should be an inclusion this week for the Western Bulldogs, given the injury to Tom Liberatore. Harmes is carving it up in the VFL and scored 100 AFL Fantasy Points on St Kilda last time they played.
