Brisbane Lions – AFL Fantasy Analysis 2024

The Brisbane Lions roared their way through 2023, charging right into the grand final and coming heartbreakingly close to the ultimate glory. With the team right in the thick of their premiership window, most of the players are well-known entities in AFL Fantasy. However, in this article, we’ll be diving into some of the lesser-known talents – those undervalued gems and emerging stars who are shaping up to be solid picks in AFL Fantasy. Get ready to uncover some potential AFL Fantasy gold lurking in the Lions’ den.

The Undervalued

Keidean Coleman

Keidean Coleman is shaping up to be a major fantasy player in the 2024 season. He’s had a few injury setbacks over the years, and he can go missing in some matches, but when he’s on form (like in the 2023 Grand Final), he can rack up some huge scores. With Daniel Rich hanging up his boots, Coleman’s likely to step up as the main man off half-back, which should mean bigger numbers in 2024. If he can sort out those injuries and remain in games for longer periods, I can see him averaging 80+ next season with ease.

Joe Daniher

Joe Daniher’s looking like a really handy pick for the 2024 fantasy season, especially with the forward line looking a bit thin. Guys averaging around 75 are going to be useful, and Daniher is well capable of hitting that mark. He might not be the best set shot but he still kicks goals and can boost those scores on days when he bags a few. Plus, his role as a backup ruck means he gets more time in the middle, which is always good for scoring a few extra points. If all the stars align for him, I reckon he’s got the potential to be a top-10 forward in 2024, so he’s one to consider if he’s available in your league.

The Breakout Contenders

Darcy Wilmot

Darcy Wilmot started to find his feet last season. After only getting a taste of the action in the finals during his debut season, he managed to suit up for every game in 2023. His average score of 60.7 in AFL Fantasy might not scream ‘superstar’, but let’s not forget he was shuffled between the wing and half-back flank throughout the year and it’s no easy feat to adapt to these role changes while chasing consistency. What’s promising is how he wrapped up the year on the half-back flank, a spot that suits his style and boosts his fantasy potential. Heading into 2024, I reckon Wilmot’s got the right mix of grit and flair to make a solid impact in our AFL Fantasy teams.

The Stash Options

Jaspa Fletcher

Jaspa Fletcher is a classy player, particularly suited for an outside role on the wing with his clean skills and sharp footy smarts. This season, he’s looking like he’ll make that wing position at Brisbane his own, which should boost his development for the future. Now, we all know wingers aren’t usually the top dogs in fantasy scoring these days, but if they can nudge their average up to the 80-90 range, they’re pretty valuable. Jaspa has the potential to hit those numbers in the next few years, making him a name to watch in fantasy circles.

Kai Lohmann

Kai Lohmann stepped it up in the VFL last season. Averaging 15 disposals, 5 marks, and 2 goals a game, his form was impressive enough to snag him a call-up to the AFL team for six games, which is a testament to his hard work and skill. As a general forward, his role might not be the most lucrative for AFL Fantasy, but those VFL numbers are a solid hint that he could become a handy contributor in the fantasy realm one day. Keep an eye on him; he’s showing signs that he could surprise us.
