Each week, we rely on our AFL Fantasy Projections (available to members of The Keeper League) to identify some of the best captain options for your team.
While there are always some obvious captain options, we try to dig a little deeper to find less popular options due to the widespread nature of players in keeper leagues. However, if you have Uber premium players, please don’t take this article as advice not to put the captaincy on them.
In addition to the top captain options, we’ll also look at some streamer options who may not be automatic selections in your side but have a history of performing well against their opponents. These options are worth considering if you’re looking for a differential advantage in your matchup.
Captains
Andrew Brayshaw is going to get a stack of ball against a very broken Richmond midfield. Brayshaw has averaged 118 AFL Fantasy Points from his last three against the Tigers.
The Brisbane verse Gold Coast game always brings heat and Touk Miller in particular loves this contest. Miller has averaged 109 AFL Fantasy Points from his last three against Brisbane.
Liam Duggan has a stellar record against Essendon averaging 108 AFL Fantasy Points from his last three against them. He has become the main distributor down back and his scores reflect it.
This week I will once again list Jack Sinclair in my article; he is fresh off 112 AFL Fantasy Points and he averages 108 against North Melbourne in recent times.
Tom Stewart should return this week against a Melbourne team that still gives up scores to intercept defenders. Stewart has averaged 104 AFL Fantasy Points from list last three against Melbourne.
Vice-Captain
Matt Crouch is playing in his 150th on Thursday night and he scored 105 AFL Fantasy Points in his last Showdown.
Now this is a very, very high-risk play given his injury; However, if Connor Rozee plays them lock him in for a big score. This is his first Showdown as Captain, and he is a big game player.
Nick Daicos will be the main man in the Collingwood midfield this week. He is down by his lofty standards but still averaging 96 AFL Fantasy Points from his last three.
Patrick Cripps is going to monster this undermanned Collingwood midfield unit. Cripps is averaging 112 AFL Fantasy Points from his last three games.
Dan Houston is averaging 108 AFL Fantasy Points from his last three games and the Thursday night game presents owners with a great loop option.
Streamers
I’m placing Matt Johnson in my streamers again this week, simply because of the Richmond match up. Johnson had 93 AFL Fantasy Points against the Tigers last season.
Luke McDonald has been a real headache this season, but he has averaged 89 AFL Fantast Points from his last three against St Kilda.
Tom Cole has a solid record against Essendon going at 84 AFL Fantasy Points from his last three head-to-heads. This includes a 92-point game when they met last season.
With Rhylee West out of the side, I think we see a bump in game time for James Harmes. Which is great timing considering he comes up against the side dealing in ‘Moral Victories’ Hawthorn this week.
The return of Jimmy Webster should see Callum Wilkie return to a more roaming role in defence. Owners should start him as he has averaged 91 AFL Fantasy Points from his last three against the North Melbourne.
