Round 9, 2024: Captains and Streamers – AFL Fantasy

Each week, we rely on our AFL Fantasy Projections (available to members of The Keeper League) to identify some of the best captain options for your team.

While there are always some obvious captain options, we try to dig a little deeper to find less popular options due to the widespread nature of players in keeper leagues. However, if you have Uber premium players, please don’t take this article as advice not to put the captaincy on them.

In addition to the top captain options, we’ll also look at some streamer options who may not be automatic selections in your side but have a history of performing well against their opponents. These options are worth considering if you’re looking for a differential advantage in your matchup.

Captains

As an owner I was burnt by Lachie Whitfield last week; but he has averaged 104 AFL Fantasy Points against Essendon in recent games and he will be fuming after last week.

This is the biggest ‘lock’ of the week, Nick Daicos as a full time mid against the West Coast Eagles. Don’t even look at the stats, just make him your Captain.

Marcus Bontempelli will return to the full-time midfield fold given the injury to Tom Liberatore. The Bont scored 151 AFL Fantasy Points against Richmond last year and he can do it again.

Jack Sinclair holds his spot this week coming off a 156 AFL Fantasy point game, with increased CBA’s and a game against the one-paced and lowly ranked Hawthorn midfield.

Darcy Parish has returned to form and is averaging 113 AFL Fantasy Points from his last three games. In addition, he has a reasonable average of 96 from his last three against Greater Western Sydney.

Vice-Captain

Nic Newman is coming off a whopping 144 AFL Fantasy Points and has a dream defender match up against Melbourne.

This game will be one for the contested bulls, which is why I’m liking Jack Viney as a VC. Viney has averaged 104 AFL Fantasy Points from his last three games on Carlton.

Tom Stewart on a Friday night at GMHBA, sign me up! Stewart has averaged 94 AFL Fantasy Points from his last three at home and has a wonderful ceiling.

I am on the AFL Fantasy community bandwagon when it comes to Clayton Oliver. Last week was his best game of the season with a score of 106 AFL Fantasy Points and I’m jumping in feet first!

Ollie Wines should be the man to benefit from Connor Rozee’s absence, with an increase in CBA’s and time on the ground. He is coming off a 105 AFL Fantasy Point game and has built his average up to 90.

Streamers

With injuries to Jordon Sweet and Ivan Soldo I’m placing Jeremy Finlayson into my forward line this week. He is averaging 74 AFL Fantasy Points and could ruck solo this week.

Jack Crisp benefited from the absences of Tom Mitchell and De Goey last week with a 93 AFL Fantasy Point game. I’d back him to do similar this week against the West Coast Eagles.

Jack Scrimshaw should benefit from the Sicily absence this weekend; Scrimshaw has averaged 81 AFL Fantasy Points from his last three against St Kilda.

Mitch McGovern returns this week and is the perfect early loop option. McGovern has averaged 79 AFL Fantasy points from his last three against Melbourne.

This is my Smokey for the week, Mac Andrew has had a great start to his career and is averaging 66 AFL Fantasy Points to date. North Melbourne lacks forward cohesion and Andrew could rack up intercepts this week.
