Round 19: Captains and Streamers – AFL Fantasy

Each week, we rely on our AFL Fantasy Projections (available to members of The Keeper League) to identify some of the best captain options for your team.

While there are always some obvious captain options, we try to dig a little deeper to find less popular options due to the widespread nature of players in keeper leagues. However, if you have Uber premium players, please don’t take this article as advice not to put the captaincy on them.

In addition to the top captain options, we’ll also look at some streamer options who may not be automatic selections in your side but have a history of performing well against their opponents. These options are worth considering if you’re looking for a differential advantage in your matchup.

Captains

Jack Steele will absolutely monster a broken North Melbourne football club. Steele is averaging 113 AFL Fantasy Points from his last three and averaged 101 in his last three match-ups against North.

Stephen Coniglio makes my article two weeks in a row because he has averaged 139 AFL Fantasy Points from his last three games against the Gold Coast Suns.

Josh Kelly has averaged 107 AFL Fantasy Points against West Coast in recent times and you can pencil that in as a minimum.

With Cerra likely missing or hindered, I am backing Mr Sam Walsh to have a ‘blinder’ against the West Coast Eagles. Walsh pumped out 128 AFL Fantasy Points last time he played the Eagles.

Max Gawn is the number one ruck at Melbourne and has averaged 106 AFL Fantasy Points against the Crows. Not to mention he is coming fresh off a whopping 162!

Vice-Captain

I’m keen to loop Mason Redman against the Western Bulldogs this weekend. The Dogs can leak points to intercept defenders and Redman scored 103 AFL Fantasy Points against the Dogs when they last met.

Tom Liberatore keeps getting the job done, averaging 100 AFL Fantasy Points in recent weeks. Libba has also averaged 102 from his last three against Essendon.

James Sicily is averaging 120 from his last three games, which includes a 65-point game last week. This guy could go mammoth against the Tigers on the weekend averaging 107 against them in their last three matchups.

Will Day is fresh off a 111 AF Fantasy Point game, averaging 92 from his last three games. Day is relishing the new role and is worth a loop this weekend.

Well, I have to say the time is nigh for Bailey Smith. Owners would be frustrated with his recent output, but he did have 100 AFL Fantasy Points the last time he met Essendon, and he will be keen to prove the haters wrong.

Streamers

Jack Ross scored 93 AFL Fantasy Points against Hawthorn last time they matched up and is averaging 80 from his last three appearances. If he holds his spot, I would be thinking about fielding him.

Whilst he has never played against the Gold Coast Suns I expect Finn Callaghan to score well if named. The kid is averaging 84 AFL Fantasy Points from his last five (but watch for late out!).

Mitch McGovern can be a high-risk, medium-reward kind of guy. However, as an intercept defender against the West Coast Eagles, I’d lock him in for an 80.

Chad Wingard has burnt this coach on many occasions but he can be fielded by owners this week. He is fresh off an 80 AFL Fantasy Point game and comes up against Richmond, whom he has averaged 98 against in his last 3 matches.

Fremantle has been giving up a stack of points to opposition defenders recently, as such I would look to field Oliver Florent this weekend. He averages 90 AFL Fantasy Points from his last three and should easily go over 80 again.
