Round 5, 2024: Captains and Streamers – AFL Fantasy

Each week, we rely on our AFL Fantasy Projections (available to members of The Keeper League) to identify some of the best captain options for your team.

While there are always some obvious captain options, we try to dig a little deeper to find less popular options due to the widespread nature of players in keeper leagues. However, if you have Uber premium players, please don’t take this article as advice not to put the captaincy on them.

In addition to the top captain options, we’ll also look at some streamer options who may not be automatic selections in your side but have a history of performing well against their opponents. These options are worth considering if you’re looking for a differential advantage in your matchup.

Captains

Touk Miller has the dream Hawthorn match up this week and is set for 40+ possessions. Miller has averaged 120 AFL Fantasy Points from his last three at People First Stadium and 117 against the Hawks.

I am all aboard Tim Taranto against the West Coast Eagles this weekend. Taranto has averaged 113 from his last three against the Eagles and I think this is his floor on the weekend.

Luke Davies-Uniacke has had a slow start to his season, but this week he comes up against one of his favourites, Geelong. LDU has averaged 109 AFL Fantasy Points from his last three games against the Cats.

North Melbourne do not have any real key position defenders; so just put the Captain on Jeremy Cameron and watch him score over 110 AFL Fantasy Points.

Vice-Captain

Hugh McCluggage is coming off an impressive 126 AFL Fantasy Points on the weekend and he has averaged 94 from his last three games at the Melbourne Cricket Ground.

Another early game this round sees Christian Petracca back on the Vice Captain’s list. Petracca had 115 AFL Fantasy Points the last time he played Brisbane.

The fact that Tom Liberatore was the sub a fortnight ago is the only reason I can include him in my article this week. He is in phenomenal form, and he scored 120 AFL Fantasy Points against Essendon the last time they met.

Mason Redman has had a slow start to the season however is my smoky this week. Redman has averaged an impressive 100 AFL Fantasy Points from his last three games at Marvel Stadium.

Darcy Parish rarely has two bad games in a row and has averaged 110 AFL Fantasy Points from his last three games against the Western Bulldogs.

Streamers

I’m looking at Todd Marshall this weekend; just given the lack of key defensive stocks at Fremantle. They are a restrictive team but can also let forwards off the chain.

Jack Graham looks to be back in the Richmond team and their midfield injuries have seen him get a crack in the middle. You could do a little worse than stream him against the Eagles.

Jamie Cripps has averaged 81 AFL Fantasy Points from his last three games against Richmond and tends to play well at home.

There has been a lot of acid thrown on Aaron Naughton this week and I expect him to respond. Essendon have been poor so he will get a few looks at it; Additionally, he has averaged 76 AFL Fantasy Points at Marvel in his last three games at the venue.

Ben Ainsworth should bounce back after a few quiet weeks; he comes up against a hapless Hawthorn who he scored 110 AFL Fantasy Points against last time they met.
