Round 23: Captains and Streamers

Each week we use our AFL Fantasy Projections (available to members of The Keeper League) to find some of the best captain options for your sides.

There are always some obvious captain options, but we’ll try to dig a little deeper to find less popular options due to the widespread nature of players in keeper leagues. If you have the Uber premiums, then please don’t take this article as advice not to put the Captaincy on them.

For the streamer options, I’ll look at some players who perform well historically against their opponents that may not be automatic selections in your side.

Good luck to all those coaches playing in their Keeper League Grand Finals!

Captains

Rowan Marshall is the number one ruck at St Kilda and is averaging 133 from his last three rounds. Marshall averages 96 against the Sydney Swans and scored 131 against them in Round 15.

Ollie Wines is averaging 111 from his last three rounds and averages 95 against the Crows. Wines had 111 in the showdown earlier this year.

Cam Guthrie hasn’t reached the heights of 2021 but he has still scored 110 or more on 7 occasions. Guthrie plays the West Coast Eagles at home this week, whom he scored 126 against in Round 14.

Jack Macrae has had a dip in his centre bounce work and is only averaging 96 from his last three games. It’s AFL Fantasy Grand Final week and also a must-win game looms for the Dogs, so I’m backing Jack. He had 119 in Round 23 last year and averages 102 against Hawthorn.

Jordan Dawson is in ripping from averaging 110 from his last three games and coming off a 129. Dawson has had 110+ on seven occasions this season and will relish the opportunity to star in another Showdown.

Vice-Captain

Daniel Rich has the dream defender match up against the Melbourne Demons this week. Rich is coming off a score of 97 last week and had 112 against Melbourne in Round 13.

Hugh McCluggage has another early game and is still averaging 105 from his last five games. McCluggage averages 90 against Melbourne and scored 136 in Round 13 against them.

Angus Brayshaw has had a recent increase in his CBAs and is averaging 107 over his last three games and had 105 on Brisbane earlier in the year.

Lachie Whitfield has had back-to-back scores of 110 or more and is looking good across the wing and half back. He only averages 85 against Fremantle, scoring 96 against them in Round 4 but he is a high risk, high-reward player so I like him as a loophole option.

Sean Darcy is averaging 106 from his last three rounds and is coming off a whopping 147. If Preuss is still injured, Darcy could really monster Briggs at Manuka.

Streamers

Tom J Lynch is coming off a 134 and will be in a race for the Coleman against Essendon. Lynch is averaging 107 from his last three and has an early enough game to use him as a loophole option.

Nick Haynes averages 74 against Fremantle with an average of 88 from his last three games. Haynes’ 123 last round could be a sign that he’s locked back to his defensive intercept role.

Tom Barrass is averaging 97 points from his last five rounds and looks to be the Eagles’ intercept king. Barrass had 86 against Geelong in Round 14.

Harris Andrews has a loophole-friendly game against the Demons on Friday night, who we know leak points to defenders. Andrews had an 88 against Melbourne in Round 13.

Alex Neale-Bullen hasn’t been scoring well of late, but he does average 70 against the Lions and had 92 against them in Round 13. Neale-Bullen is the type of forward I’d like to loophole on a Friday night.
