Round 24: Captains and Streamers – AFL Fantasy

Congratulations to all those coaches who are playing off in Grand Finals this week (unless you are there as a result of knocking me out).

Each week, we rely on our AFL Fantasy Projections (available to members of The Keeper League) to identify some of the best captain options for your team.

While there are always some obvious captain options, we try to dig a little deeper to find less popular options due to the widespread nature of players in keeper leagues. However, if you have Uber premium players, please don’t take this article as advice not to put the captaincy on them.

In addition to the top captain options, we’ll also look at some streamer options who may not be automatic selections in your side but have a history of performing well against their opponents. These options are worth considering if you’re looking for a differential advantage in your matchup.

Captains

For those coaches who love high stakes gambling, then look no further than Adam Treloar against a depleted Geelong. Treloar had 130 AFL Fantasy points the last time he played Geelong and is fresh off 143.

Jack Sinclair scored 136 AFL Fantasy Points on the weekend and had 130 on the Lions when they last met. Whilst the game is at the GABBA I think owners have to back him in.

Josh Kelly’s 85 AFL Fantasy Points on the weekend does not reflect his game, he was everywhere just overused the handball. Kelly has a great record on Carlton, evidenced by the fact he has averaged 126 against them from his last three.

Max Gawn is going to make Tom Hickey wish he retired ‘effective immediately’. Gawn has averaged 122 AFL Fantasy Points against the Swans in recent games and is back to vintage Max.

Touk Miller is back to his high tackling, high possession best and is an absolute lock Captain against North Melbourne this weekend.

Vice-Captain

Hayden Young was just named in the AFLPA’s 22 under 22 Squad and has an early fixture against Hawthorn. Young has averaged 110 AFL Fantasy Points from his last three against the Hawks.

Josh Daicos scored 108 AFL Fantasy Points against Essendon last time they played, and he is averaging 108 from his last five games.

Will Day has not had a great record against Fremantle, but the Will Day of 2023 is a new beast and I’m backing him to score over 100 AFL Fantasy Points this week.

Mason Redman isn’t someone I’d lock in as a Captain due to recent form, however the early game and his potential ceiling make him a solid VC Loop option this week.

Jai Newcombe missed last week’s game with what I can only presume was a case of leather poisoning after his efforts in Round 22. Newcombe has averaged 112 AFL Fantasy Points from his last three and is coming off a 159.

Streamers

Jamie Cripps loves playing at Optus Stadium and has averaged 91 AFL Fantast Points from his last three against the Adelaide Crows.

As we all know by now, matchups against St Kilda mean uncontested possessions. Jarrod Berry spends a lot of time on the wing and averaged 87 AFL Fantasy Points from his last three against the Saints.

Aidan Corr will again be the beneficiary of Jack Ziebell’s absence. During the three-week stretch where Ziebell was the sub, Corr scored 102, 78 and 82 AFL Fantasy Points.

Brayden Fiorini is the definition of ‘headache’ however last week he had a substantial number of CBAs with his 86 AFL Fantasy Points and if named against North Melbourne, he is someone you can start on field.

Jake Soligo scored 102 AFL Fantasy Points last week, whilst he isn’t getting the mid time of early season, I expect him to score well on that wing at Optus against the West Coast Eagles.
