Round 3, 2024: Captains and Streamers – AFL Fantasy

Each week, we rely on our AFL Fantasy Projections (available to members of The Keeper League) to identify some of the best captain options for your team.

While there are always some obvious captain options, we try to dig a little deeper to find less popular options due to the widespread nature of players in keeper leagues. However, if you have Uber premium players, please don’t take this article as advice not to put the captaincy on them.

In addition to the top captain options, we’ll also look at some streamer options who may not be automatic selections in your side but have a history of performing well against their opponents. These options are worth considering if you’re looking for a differential advantage in your matchup.

Captains

Last week I indicated that Hawthorn were ‘witches hats’ well this week, I’m banking on their defenders being pushovers. Jeremy Cameron had 137 AFL Fantasy Points last time he played the Hawks, and he could do it again.

Adam Treloar has had a respectable start to the season, without going big. This week, we will see that big score come against the West Coast Eagles. Treloar notched up 143 AFL Fantasy Points when these two teams last met.

This is the last week Errol Gulden will be eligible for my article, pencil him in for 120 AFL Fantasy Points this week against an undermanned Richmond midfield group.

Liam Duggan is the West Coast Eagles’ best player and looks to have returned to his juicy defensive role. Duggan had 112 AFL Fantasy Points against the Western Bulldogs the last time they played.

Christian Petracca has had a dynamite start to the AFL season, and this week, I think that will translate into a big score. Not to mention his opponent, the Adelaide Crows gave up four scores of 100 AFL Fantasy Points last week.

Vice-Captain

Collingwood looks slow and unfit, cherry ripe for an athletic midfielder to pick them apart, and hat midfielder will be Hugh McCluggage. I expect him to go big this week.

Jordan De Goey is another mid who simply must turn his season around if Collingwood is to make finals. The pressure will see Jordy rise to the occasion and score upwards of 100 AFL Fantasy Points.

Patrick Cripps is an absolute monster in the contest, and I don’t see anyone at North Melbourne being able to slow him down. Cripps has averaged 102 AFL Fantasy Points from his last three games against North.

Luke Davies-Uniacke looked set to take the competition by storm this year; however, his start has been underwhelming. Outside of Sheezel, I think he’s the best of the North vice-captain options this week.

Charlie Curnow scored 114 AFL Fantasy Points last time he played North Melbourne and their defensive make-up has only got worse.

Streamers

Aaron Naughton has averaged 77 AFL Fantasy points from his last three games against the West Coast Eagles. He could run that Eagles’ defence ragged this week and notch up 100.

Intercept defenders have a habit of cleaning up against Melbourne which is why I like the look of Aliir Aliir this week.

Oliver Florent put up 103 AFL Fantasy Points on Richmond last year and I think there’s a good chance he can go 80+ against this week.

Peter Wright missing from the Essendon lineup should free Josh Battle up to take intercept marks at will. Whilst his average against Essendon isn’t prolific, his 100 AFL Fantasy points last week show he has the ceiling.

Charlie Dixon has averaged 77 AFL Fantasy Points against Melbourne in recent years. With May missing and Lever under an injury cloud I’d field Charlie this week.
