Round 6: Captains and Streamers – AFL Fantasy

Each week, we rely on our AFL Fantasy Projections (available to members of The Keeper League) to identify some of the best captain options for your team.

While there are always some obvious captain options, we try to dig a little deeper to find less popular options due to the widespread nature of players in keeper leagues. However, if you have Uber premium players, please don’t take this article as advice not to put the captaincy on them.

In addition to the top captain options, we’ll also look at some streamer options who may not be automatic selections in your side but have a history of performing well against their opponents. These options are worth considering if you’re looking for a differential advantage in your matchup.

Captains

If Jack Steele returns this week, then you should lock him in as your Captain. Steele has a rolling average of 138 AFL Fantasy points against Carlton with 119 against them last year.

Lachie Neale bounced back into form in Round 5 and I am predicting his scoring will continue to improve. Neale has averaged 108 AFL Fantasy points from his last three against Greater Western Sydney.

I did not predict the Essendon’s rapid improvement; I think a factor in this has been Darcy Parish‘s return to full fitness. Parish had 114 against Collingwood last season and loves an ANZAC Day clash.

Brodie Grundy finds his way back into my article this week, even with the likely Gawn return. Richmond do not have a starting ruck and Grundy has averaged 106 AFL Fantasy points against Richmond in recent times.

There are three certainties in life, Death, Taxes and Touk Miller going big against North Melbourne. North will be without their Captain and Miller has averaged 116 AFL Fantasy points against them in his last three.

Vice-Captain

Andrew Brayshaw has been in the media recently for an apparent reduction in possessions. He will respond this week and is an amazing Friday night loophole option against the Western Bulldogs.

Tom Liberatore is the Western Bulldogs’ most prolific AFL Fantasy midfield option at the moment. He is averaging 105 points this season and is an ideal VC option.

There is a Fremantle defender who is dominating this season, the forgotten man Luke Ryan. Ryan is averaging 104 AFL Fantasy points and has a three-game rolling average of 123 against the Western Bulldogs.

Connor Rozee has been very consistent this season and this week he will dine out on the West Coast Eagles. Rozee had 119 AFL Fantasy points against West Coast last season and could easily repeat that effort.

Tim Kelly has been the best out of a deplorable lot for West Coast this season. He’s likely to get a Drew tag but that didn’t stop him from scoring 113 AFL Fantasy points against Port last season.

Streamers

Todd Marshall has enjoyed playing the West Coast Eagles in recent years, scoring an impressive 137 AFL Fantasy points against them last season.

Conor Nash is coming off 104 AFL Fantasy points last round and this week he plays Adelaide at University of Tasmania Stadium. Nash had 93 against the Crows last season and should be a safe 75+ score this week.

Mitch McGovern looks set to return this week and by virtue of injuries, could become Carlton’s primary ball user out of defence. He is averaging 79 AFL Fantasy points this season and should score well against the Gold Coast Suns.

Collingwood only have one fit tall left on their list which should see Sam Draper continue his good form. Draper is coming off 82 AFL Fantasy points and he scored 79 against the Pies when they last met.

Darcy Fogarty is averaging 82 AFL Fantasy points this season and is coming off 109 last round. Fogarty relies on goals to boost his score, which is something his opponent in Hawthorn love to give up.
