Round 7: Captains and Streamers – AFL Fantasy

Each week, we rely on our AFL Fantasy Projections (available to members of The Keeper League) to identify some of the best captain options for your team.

While there are always some obvious captain options, we try to dig a little deeper to find less popular options due to the widespread nature of players in keeper leagues. However, if you have Uber premium players, please don’t take this article as advice not to put the captaincy on them.

In addition to the top captain options, we’ll also look at some streamer options who may not be automatic selections in your side but have a history of performing well against their opponents. These options are worth considering if you’re looking for a differential advantage in your matchup.

Captains

Sam Walsh is going to carve the West Coast Eagles and have an absolute field day. Walsh scored 133 AFL Fantasy points last round and has averaged 108 against the Eagles in their last three matchups.

Noah Anderson had 141 AFL Fantasy against Richmond when they met last season. This year Richmond has consistently leaked points and does not deploy tags.

I think Christian Petracca is starting to hit form, averaging 105 AFL Fantasy Points in his last three games. Petracca had 115 on North Melbourne last year and should do that again.

Jarrod Witts is my ‘Ruck Captain’ option of the week. Witts comes up against a battered and bruised Richmond Tigers ruck division and should be a safe 110.

I like Tom Stewart against an Essendon team devoid of good key forward targets. Essendon has been giving up points to defenders in recent games and Stewart has averaged 105 AFL Fantasy points against the Bombers from his last three matchups against them.

Vice-Captain

Port Adelaide will continue to ruck Teakle and Finlayson, so Rowan Marshall will have an absolute field day. Marshall had 122 AFL Fantasy points on Port last season, and he could comfortably top that.

Daniel Rich is the other ‘less than obvious’ candidate this round. He has not had a great start to the season, but he has averaged 120 AFL Fantasy points in his last three against Fremantle.

Connor Rozee makes my loop article again this week, it’s purely based on his average of 103 AFL Fantasy points from his last three games, including and he plays on a Friday night.

Sydney has an early game on Saturday and Callum Mills is my loophole pick for this game. Mills must surely return to the midfield role he occupied last season where he scored 116 AFL Fantasy points against Greater Western Sydney.

Streamers

Miles Bergman should see a bump in his scoring this week with Kane Farrell out through injury. Bergman has shown he is capable of scoring well and St Kilda concede a lot of cheap AFL Fantasy points.

Liam Stocker is another early-round defender loop option this week. Stocker has averaged 80 AFL Fantasy points from his last three at Marvel Stadium.

Harris Andrews has had an impressive start to the season and should feast on intercept marks against the Fremantle Dockers this week given their lack of talls and their forward line structure.

I fell uneasy when suggesting Rory Lobb, however, he has averaged 80 AFL Fantasy points from his last three against Hawthorn and I see a world where he repeats that at Marvel this week.

Jack Silvagni has averaged 77 AFL Fantast points from his last three games against the West Coast Eagles and he scored a 92 in his last game at Optus Stadium.
