Round 8: Captains and Streamers – AFL Fantasy

Each week, we rely on our AFL Fantasy Projections (available to members of The Keeper League) to identify some of the best captain options for your team.

While there are always some obvious captain options, we try to dig a little deeper to find less popular options due to the widespread nature of players in keeper leagues. However, if you have Uber premium players, please don’t take this article as advice not to put the captaincy on them.

In addition to the top captain options, we’ll also look at some streamer options who may not be automatic selections in your side but have a history of performing well against their opponents. These options are worth considering if you’re looking for a differential advantage in your matchup.

Captains

Andrew Brayshaw has a fantasy-friendly match up this week against Hawthorn at Optus Stadium. Brayshaw had 141 AFL Fantasy points when he last met the Hawks and is my favourite pick for the round.

St Kilda has become an AFL Fantasy gold mine this season which makes Jack Sinclair a great Captain option. Sinclair had 133 AFL Fantasy points on North Melbourne last year and is coming off 119 points.

Tom Liberatore should return this week to get stuck into traditional rivals Greater Western Sydney. Liberatore had 131 AFL Fantasy points at Manuka Oval last year and is in career-best form.

With a three-game rolling average of 117 AFL Fantasy points Stephen Coniglio is an ideal Captain option this round. Coniglio scored 121 against the Western Bulldogs last year and has a good record on the Dogs.

Connor Rozee is on fire averaging 108 AFL Fantasy points in his last three games. Rozee scored 115 points on Essendon last year and had 133 in his last game at Adelaide Oval.

Vice-Captain

The West Coast Eagles have been putrid, but Tim Kelly is quietly putting together a solid individual season. Kelly had 132 AFL Fantasy points against Richmond last season and is currently sitting on a 104 average.

Josh Dunkley is having a quiet season by his lofty standards but is still going at an average of 101 AFL Fantasy points. Dunkley has always enjoyed playing Carlton averaging 118 from his last three against them.

Adam Cerra makes my loop section this week on the back of his recent impressive form, averaging 117 AFL Fantasy points from his last three games.

There should be a lot of cheap ball going around on Saturday, which should suit Jayden Short, who has averaged 109 AFL Fantasy points from his last three against the West Coast Eagles.

Tom Stewart is back in my article this week, coming off 113 AFL Fantasy points in Round 7. Stewart had a mammoth 169 against the Adelaide Crows last season and will be the main man in defence for Geelong.

Streamers

Liam Shiels is coming off a 108 AFL Fantasy point game in Round 7 and was arguably North Melbourne’s best. Shiels had 119 AFL Fantasy points when he last met St Kilda and should be on your field this week.

In this week’s edition of ‘Stream Against West Coast Eagles’, I nominate Nathan Broad. Broad had 112 AFL Fantasy points against the Eagles last year and has averaged 77 against them from his last three.

Steven May has a good match-up this week against his old Gold Coast Suns team. May has averaged 81 AFL Fantasy points against the Suns in recent times and had a score of 94 against them last season.

I like Tim Membrey against North Melbourne as a stream option this week. Tim had 90 AFL Fantasy points against the Kangaroos last season and could easily score owners an 80 this week.

Connor McKenna has averaged over 80 AFL Fantasy points against Carlton and could benefit from the recent Daniel Rich injury. The Friday night game makes him an ideal loop option.
