Round 9: Captains and Streamers – AFL Fantasy

Each week, we rely on our AFL Fantasy Projections (available to members of The Keeper League) to identify some of the best captain options for your team.

While there are always some obvious captain options, we try to dig a little deeper to find less popular options due to the widespread nature of players in keeper leagues. However, if you have Uber premium players, please don’t take this article as advice not to put the captaincy on them.

In addition to the top captain options, we’ll also look at some streamer options who may not be automatic selections in your side but have a history of performing well against their opponents. These options are worth considering if you’re looking for a differential advantage in your matchup.

Captains

Max Gawn is averaging 96 AFL Fantasy points from his last three games and has the fantasy-friendly match up this week against Hawthorn. Gawn put on 149 AFL Fantasy points when he last came up against the Hawks.

I’m very excited to see what Rory Laird can put up against a fantasy friendly St Kilda opposition. Laird is averaging 108 AFL Fantasy points from his last five games and 100 from his last three games against the Saints.

Adam Cerra is averaging 132 points from his last three games and is probably one ceiling score away from being ineligible for this article.

The Western Bulldogs have been leaking points to running defenders, which is why I’d have Sam Docherty as my Captain this week. Doc had 106 AFL Fantasy points on the Dogs last year and has averaged 102 against them in recent matches.

Brad Crouch loves coming up against his old team, with an average of 112 AFL Fantasy points against them. He has been flat the last few weeks; However, the grudge match should fire him up.

Vice-Captain

The Friday night double-header sees Tim Kelly make the article again as a loop option. He is still averaging over 100 AFL Fantasy points and is the only Eagle you could consider as a Captain.

Jeremy Cameron is going to kick a bag on a very middling Richmond Tigers defensive unit. Cameron has averaged 80 AFL Fantasy points from his last three against Richmond, but this is a very different Tigers outfit.

After missing almost an entire season, Jacob Hopper has repaid the faith to those who held him. Hopper has averaged 107 AFL Fantasy points from his last three against Geelong and is a solid Vice Captain loophole option.

Matt Rowell is finally starting to reward owners with some Captain-worthy scores. His new diet of turf has seen him average 93 AFL Fantasy points from his last three games.

Errol Gulden is edging toward premium status averaging 116 AFL fantasy points from his last three games. Gulden notched up 110 points the last time he played Fremantle and is averaging over 100 at the SCG.

Streamers

Oliver Florent has been a bit up and down this season but presents as an ideal D5 option this week. Florent enjoys the Fremantle match-up with a score of 103 AFL Fantasy points against them last season.

The Gold Coast Suns are still giving away points to intercept defenders, so this week I would have Tom Barrass on field. Barrass has averaged 75 AFL Fantasy points against the Suns in recent years with an 83 last time they met.

Tom Sparrow is averaging 79 AFL Fantasy points from his last three games and essentially plays a bye this week in Hawthorn.

North Melbourne is giving up more AFL Fantasy points to key forwards than anyone else this season. I’m backing Charlie Dixon to kick a bag against the Roos this week, making him the perfect stream.

Charlie Cameron has been in flying form of late averaging 83 AFL Fantasy points from his last three games. Essendon’s defence will be undermanned so Charlie could get off the chain.
